Digital Writing – audio and video narratives – around core curricula is the new literacy for today’s students. Given our students’ propensity to find both entertainment and information on YouTube and other visually based media platforms, it’s incumbent upon us as educators to teach them how to produce substantive content for these digital platforms. Whereas our traditional library contains books, theirs contains videos – many of which are really interesting, provocative and artistically notable. And yet, as educators, we don’t prioritize helping our students “write” or create for this literacy; this visually digital universe of ideas.

This hands-on workshop focuses on:

  1. Providing practical guidance for educators to lead curricular-driven, Digital Writing Projects (you don’t need to understand digital production!)

  2. Developing a new understanding of the educational value of students collaborating to develop, create and produce video and audio narratives; and

  3. Exploring the tools, apps and platforms (with a particular focus on YouTube) that are driving students’ engagement with and participation in these digital worlds.

Teachers will come away with a variety of Digital Writing Projects to bring into the classroom, as well as the tools to implement them.

PLEASE NOTE: A minimum of 10 attendees is required.
