school picRoosevelt Middle School, "Where ALL Kids Succeed!" in New Bedford, Massachusetts is a New England League of Middle Schools Spotlight School because the school is structured to serve the best interests of preadolescents and the administration, faculty, and staff take their mission very seriously. Our teachers are extremely dedicated, understand preadolescents, very knowledgeable in their areas of expertise and very willing to learn. We work as a team to serve students. Decisions are made by leadership teams and based upon data and research, developmentally appropriate practices, and what is best for students. Our school has diligently worked on implementing the best middle school research practices, especially the Turning Points (1989, 2000) recommendations. We are very focused upon academics and improving student performance. There is a developing school culture of high expectations and quality for everyone. Although we face all of the challenges of urban schools, we are inspired that all of our faculty and children will succeed! Our school is a very special and positive place for kids!

Roosevelt Middle School first received the NELMS Spotlight School Award in 2002, and its award was renewed in 2005.
