East Lyme Middle School has created new and/or revised program opportunities that continue to promote school improvement and growth through the implementation of middle school best practices. CAS recognized ELMS for the revisions made to its advisory program at the Recognition of Excellence Ceremony in November, 2013.  Our new advisory program is entitled Connections. We have developed procedures to create Student Success Plans for students in grade 6 - 8.  All 6 - 8 students create three goals using a new computer software program called Naviance. The Naviance Program is already in use at East Lyme High School and together we identified procedures and programs within our school that supported this initiative. These include:  Positive Behavior Intervention Supports, Positive Learning community (PLC’s) and SMART goal development, interest inventories, advisory goal-setting lessons, and our student-led conferences. East Lyme Middle School is in its fifth year of implementing a system of Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports (PBIS) to establish a continuum of effective and positive behavioral support systems that promote a positive school climate and maximize academic achievement for all students.

East Lyme Middle School is a school that exemplifies academic excellence, developmentally responsive practices, and social equity for all students. We are a community of many bound by a single vision: lifelong learning, mutual respect, and equal opportunities for all. A working partnership between home and school emphasizes successful student achievement, responsibility, and respect. Our staff works diligently to partner with parents and the community with open communication throughout the school year through our weekly school newsletter, team newsletters, "Good News" post cards, parent surveys, parent resources on-line, and parent meetings. Teaming fosters a safe, supportive teaching and learning environment for all students, parents, and teachers.

East Lyme Middle School received the Middle School of the Year Award in 2012 by the Connecticut Association of Schools (CAS).
East Lyme Middle School received the NELMS Spotlight School Award in 2003.
