Keys to Literacy and the New England League of Middle Schools (NELMS) are pleased to announce that NELMS has become a licensed provider of Keys to Literacy professional development for reading comprehension strategies and vocabulary. This partnership will enable schools and districts to contract directly with NELMS for Keys to Literacy professional development. NELMS will provide complete Keys to Literacy professional development services including one and two-day open workshops and on-site training. NELMS selected Keys to Literacy as partner because its research based instructional routines are an effective way for content teachers to build student literacy skills.
"NELMS is a leading organization in middle level education. Their reputation, staff and experience are well suited to delivering our comprehension and vocabulary instruction", said Joan Sedita, Keys to Literacy founder, secondary literacy expert and author of The Key Three Routine. "We are proud to announce this relationship and look forward to helping NELMS achieve their mission to improve literacy among middle school students."
NELMS Executive Director of Professional Development, Gerry Quatrale, engaged the services of Keys to Literacy to meet the need for content teacher training that addresses literacy.
"The Key Three Routine: Comprehension Strategy Instruction and Key Vocabulary Routine are research-based and effective", said Mr. Quatrale. "Joan Sedita has built an excellent program that will improve comprehension and vocabulary for all students. Keys to Literacy has been instrumental in providing exemplary, research- based literacy professional development to many schools across New England. "
Keys to Literacy is a professional development company with a focus on adolescent literacy. Their mission is to prepare teachers in grades 4 through 12 to teach literacy skills through instruction that is embedded in content.
