Exemplary Integrated Unit: Beane-Brodhagen Award

Purpose: NELMS seeks to identify educators who have developed and/or implemented creative and effective instructional/curricula strategies consistent with middle level education.

Selection Criteria
Evidence of:

  • High expectations for all students
  • Demonstrates active learning by students and connects to community /real life applications
  • Actively involves students in decision-making, choices of activities, and assessment
  • Celebrates diversity
  • Incorporates middle level best practices throughout instruction and assessment

Application Process: The nominator must collect the following and submit all materials electronically to nelms@nelms.org by February 1.

  • A copy of the unit with student work/product samples.
  • One to two page summary of the unit explaining in 500 words or less how this unit meets the criteria using specific examples

Recognition: Those who receive an award will be recognized at the NELMS Annual Conference and in MidLines, (the NELMS newspaper), receive a two-day registration to our Annual Conference, and be featured on the web site.

The recipient will also be invited to present the award to the next year's award winner at the Annual Conference Welcome & Recognitions Reception.

Upon submission of this application, the school principal will be contacted by NELMS.
