2010 Recognition Awards
NELMS is pleased to announce award winners for 2010.

The Distinguished Service Award was presented to Paul Freeman. He has demonstrated the following qualities:
SERVICE
reflects a high level of dedication and commitment to the cause of quality education for young adolescents
SCHOLARSHIP
invested in helping others to better understand the unique needs of young adolescents
ACTIVITIES
clearly demonstrates a concern for those less fortunate in need of special leadership
LEADERSHIP
organizing and directing others to excellence in middle level education

This year there were three recipients of the Promising Practitioner Award:
Dominic DiBenedetto, Keene Middle School, Keene, NH;
Andrew Ferch, Epping Middle School, Epping, NH;
Melissa Jellison, The Whitefield School, Whitefield, NH.
This award honors teachers who are beginning their teaching career and have one to three years of experience.

The Administrator’s Award honors administrators who value, understand and support effective middle level educators who promote powerful learning for young adolescents. The award recipients were:
Janet Steinert,
The Whitefield School, Whitefield, NH;
Morgan Williams, John Reid Middle School, Pittsfield, MA

Master in the Middle Award honors teachers who are devoted to young adolescents, committed to best middle level practices and who have taught for 20 or more years. The two award recipients are:
Christine Luongo
, Epping Middle School, Epping, NH;
Deborah Mansfield, Jefferson Village School, Jefferson, ME.

The Superintendent Award seeks to honor superintendents who value, understand and support effective middle level education that promotes powerful learning for young adolescents. The recipient of this prestigious honor was:
Barbara Munsey
, Epping Middle School, Epping, NH

NELMS was able to recognize individuals or groups who utilize meaningful technology to enhance student learning at the middle level. The second winner since the inception of the Technology Award was: Plainfield Central School, Plainfield, CT, Jerry Davis, Principal and James Salsich.

All NELMS Awards Recipients were honored at our Awards Reception that was held at our 29th Annual Conference. Invited guests, peers, NELMS Recognitions Committee and NELMS Board Members participated in this prestigious honor bestowed upon the award recipients.
